Scenario: ‘Je eigen natuur’

We voelen ons nauwelijks meer verantwoordelijk als een individu. De tijd dat de mens samen leefde met de natuur en afhankelijk was van datgene wat de natuur hen gaf (eten, onderdak) lijkt iets uit de oertijd. Tegenwoordig is de natuurlijk afhankelijk van ons, onderhevig aan de grillen van de mens. Maar hierin lijkt een mogelijkheid zich te verschuilen. Wat als we een manier kunnen vinden om dit contact te herstellen? Een vorm waar het niet alleen gaat over termen zoals ‘recycling’ , ‘biologisch afbreekbaar’ en duurzaamheid? Maar meer over het mengen van de natuur, je omgeving en persoonlijk contact? Als je ziet dat wat jij doet, niet alleen invloed heeft op jezelf, maar ook op je omgeving, zou je je dan meer betrokken voelen? En wat als je doordat je deze ervaring hebt op een persoonlijk, individueel niveau je anders begint te kijken naar de natuur om je heen en weer wat van die persoonlijke verantwoording begint te voelen?

Deze spanningen tussen de energie van de mens en de natuur vormt de basis van ons idee…Om tastbaar en zichtbaar te maken dat onze eigen keuzes en beslissingen invloed hebben op onszelf en onze omgeving.

Spending hours in the sewing room

Few days for the exhibition we are spending hours in de sewing room. The sun is shining and we are sewing. We need to sew 60 meters both sides. But it’s going well, soon you can see the result in TROUW Amsterdam.

This week we printed the labels on MDF, the same material as our cubes. This is the result!

The finishing touch of the cubes

For the protective coating and the finishing touch of the cubes we used a satin varnish. The cubes are now ready for the exhibition next week (tuesday, wednesday and thursday).

The only problem now is: How to transport 500 kilograms of material from Kloosterboer Decor, Purmerend to Trouw, Amsterdam?

Nurturing Nature

Nurturing nature is based on the fact that we have so many choices and options nowadays, we don’t know which way to go. This freedom, our freedom can get in the way. Because we have the freedom to choose and do everything, we can do anything we want without feeling liable.

It’s all about a moment of contact and being aware of a deeper seated energy level. By feeling the impact of your surroundings we start to regain some awareness. While embracing this personal contact it makes you feel accountable again, whether it’s for yourself or your surroundings. Our goal is to stimulate mutual sharing of the surrounding energy to nurture your own nature and that of your surroundings and therefore feel personal accountable.

The design ‘Nurture & Share’ is based on a textile with solar cells that charge when you are out in nature and returns this energy back to you. You can use this textile alone or share your energy with others.

Making ‘the Live-In Room’

Sunday 20 june we started building up our Live-In Room. We had the oppertunity to work the whole day in the workshop of Kloosterboer Decor (see here) to build the interior.

First we had to saw all the pieces in the right size. After a class ‘How to use a tacker’ we were ready to put those pieces together to make the eighteen cubes. We used wood glue to glue the pieces and a tacker to shoot the nails in to the wood and to get the strongest and best connection.

The design of ‘the Live-In Room’

The design of our product. The idea is to create two living rooms who represent the choice between perfection and function. In each room you can see the needs of a human being, like food, drink and sleep.

The interior of both rooms consists 9 cubes. The base of the room is a table, a chair and a bed. But it is possible to create your own ideal room. So you can make whatever you need. For example a bench, or a larger table or a bigger bed.
